The AMVO Coding Rules were revised in September 2026. The new Version 5 of the Coding Rules is now available for download in German and English.
The key changes and clarifications in the new version are:
1D barcode: Clarification that a 1D barcode is no longer required.
Multi-market packs (shared packs): Further clarification of the requirements for linking the pharmaceutical product number (PZN) and the product code.
Expiry date: The guidance on the representation and coding of the expiry date has been updated to align with the current GS1 specifications.
